Volunteer Opportunities

The Lighthouse for the Blind welcomes volunteers of varying ages to participate in adult and children services.

Volunteer Training
All volunteers are required to participate in a special training session to improve their understanding of the blind population, their needs, and how to provide assistance. The session includes: sensitivity training, instruction in sighted guide techniques, and basic education in how to relate to blind individuals.

Application Process
Every candidate is required to complete an application and back ground check prior to volunteering at the Lighthouse for the Blind. The application process is as follows:

  1. Obtain an application from the Lighthouse Information and Referral Department by calling 897-3456, toll free 1-866-222-2229, or emailing requests to clee@lhb.org.
  2. Upon receiving a completed application, the applicant?ɬ¢?¢‚Äö¬¨?¢‚Äû¬¢s information is sent off for a background check.
  3. Approved applicants will receive a call to schedule training prior to initiating volunteer services.
